This is the year the Andean Health Cycling Team was born with the very first ride. Mike Heisler, then Chair of Andean Health and Development’s (AHD) Advisory Board, set out from Sioux Falls on his 63rd birthday to ride to Father Hesburgh’s office at Notre Dame. Mike rode 675 miles, climbed 6,000′ and raised $71,839, surpassing his goals.

With this effort, cycling to raise funds for AHD became a strategy that would take on a life of its own in bringing riders together from across the nation and world in the years to come. Check out other past rides to watch how this effort has grown over the years to successfully raise funds to supports AHD’s hospitals, health care delivery, and medical training in Ecuador.
